My Top 10

1. The Lark Ascending - Thomas Tallis arr V. Williams - This has got to be the most relaxing and inspiring music ever. I have always loved the 20th Century English composers like Vaughn Williams and the feeling of the English landscape in their music. I remember studying this piece of music at University and have loved it ever since.

2. Washing of the Water - Peter Gabriel - I think Peter Gabriel is an amazing musician. This is a moving song and I love the emotion of his voice. I have never got the chance to hear him live but would love to as he is such a great all round performer.

3. Baby Jane - Rod Stewart - This takes me back to my teenage years and the sounds of the 80s. The introduction itself just reminds me straight away of my first boyfriend.

4. Listen to the Music - Doobie Brothers - A summer's day... driving in my first car that had a CD player... music blasting out the window, what better song to make you feel happy.

5. The Wonder of You - Elvis - You hear so many dodgy karaoke versions of this song but it hasn't managed to spoil it for me. This is my all time favourite Elvis song.

6. Greensleeves - This is one of the first tunes I learnt to play on the piano. I practised it continually because I really wanted to impress my piano teacher. As a result I got totally fed up with it back then, but when I hear it now I think it has a beautiful melody and have become really fond of it.

7. Dear Lord and Father of Mankind - This is my favourite all time hymn. I remember when I was at school having to play it in assembly and always panicking about making mistakes in front of everyone. I still struggle to play it well but think the harmonies and the words are great in it.

8. Nine to Five - Dolly Parton - This song has such a good feel factor and takes me back to being about 11 when my friend and I would dress up in her mum's outfits and make up a dance routine to it in the living room. We usually ended up laughing on the floor.

9. Piano Concerto Number 3 - Rachmaninoff - I was introduced to Rachmaninoff's music by a friend who was training to be a concert pianist. I remember hearing him practice and was hooked ever since. More recently I heard Barry Douglas perform it in the Ulster Hall and was blown away by it.

10. Valentine Moon - Sam Brown - I first heard this track performed by Sam Brown with Jools Holland on his Later show at New Year a few years ago. It is a simple love song but Sam's gravely voice and Jool's piano and the brass instrumentation make a great combination.
