CABARET diva Karen Egan returns to the Island Arts Centre next week with her new show, La Charlatanne.
Karen will take to the Island Arts Centre stage on Saturday November 21 at 8pm.
Mixing a cocktail of Jacques Brel and Leonard Cohen with her o
wn original hits, the evening promises charismatic characters, witty repartee, sexy burlesque, wonderful music and unmissable magic that will delight in its contradictions.
A popular guest at the Island Arts Centre, when hot diva Egan takes to the stage singing, everything else just melts away.
Supported by a three-piece band, La Charlatanne transports you to the bold brassy burlesque of the cabaret clubs from the Weimar era.
Part French, Karen moved to Dublin when she was four. She studied law at UCD and at King's Inns, qualifying as a barrister, but was soon lured to the beguiling universes of theatre, television and film, acting in a variety of productions.
Karen was also a member of the comedy singing trio, 'The Nualas', who toured Ireland, Britain, Singapore and Australia, performing in all the major comedy festivals and securing their own radio show on BBC Radio 4. However, it is for her live shows that Karen is best known.
This recent solo foray into the world of cabaret has given her an ideal platform to showcase her talents as multilingual chanteuse, comedienne and song-writer.
'Dublin's Drollest Diva' has built up a cult following in Ireland, Finland and Scotland with five star sell-out shows at The Assembly Rooms as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006. She released her début album Very Very in September 2006.
Tickets priced £10 are available online at www.islandartscentre.com, by telephoning 9250 9254 or in person from the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn.
