Randalstown opened brightly against Ophir in contrast to the damp slippy conditions. A brace of tries from Ryan Bailie eased ‘Town into a half time lead, but the hosts hit back in the second period levelling the scores and keeping ‘Town pinned in their own half. It was a breakaway try by Calum McGrenaghan from his own line in the last minute which won Randalstown the game.

Two tries apiece from James Millar and Michael Smith were sufficient to despatch UUC 22-7 in the next encounter.

A third successive win against Larne B team saw ‘Town into the semi finals. The 38-12 win was inspired by Scott Stevenson whoc claimed a hat-trick of scores with McGrenaghan, Smith and Matty Turner also touching down.

In the fourth group game ‘Town slipped to a 14-5 defeat against Ards with Turner scoring the only try.

A useful Queens side provided the semi-final opposition and after taking an early lead courtesy of another Stevenson try the Randalstown men were edged out 15-5.

It was an enjoyable afternoon and a useful run out for Randalstown despite the conditions. New comers Daniel Morgan and Chris McGoldrick showed their mettle with impressive displays.
