FIVE junior members of Randalstown Hockey Club excelled at a recent international tournament in Holland.

Rhianna Campbell, Emma Clyde, Claire Donald, Erin Getty and Emma Heron were selected to play for Ulster U15’s at the inaugural HIC Young Professional Tournament, held at HIC Amstelveen.

The tournament featured eight teams in total, including opposition from Germany, France and the host nation.

There were two pool sections. Ulster won 2 games against Klein Zwitserland and HIC and lost 1 game against HC Alphen in the first stages of the tournament. Ulster finished second in their pool. They had to then play the winners of the other pool, Cartouche, who are the top team in the area and were favourites to win the whole tournament.

This was a very tight and exciting match Ulster won 2-1. This got them through to the finals. This was another good game and Ulster battled well and won 2-1 against Gooische HC. Ulster Girls came away with the HIC Young Professionals Trophy and Gold medals.

Rhianna Campbell was also awarded an individual trophy for “Most Valuable Player”. Rhianna was outstanding in the final. She made great runs up the wing and crossed the ball across the circle to create the two goals for Ulster.

Emma Clyde was unlucky not to score as her first shot hit the post. Throughout the tournament she had 2 more good strikes at goal saved by the keepers.

Claire Donald made very critical saves in the first match and also in the final. She was always alert, even in such warm conditions.

Erin Getty was playing defence and worked hard to keep the goals out. Erin showed maturity on the pitch and dealt well with the pressure. Emma Heron also worked hard in midfield and up front. Emma also had a good attempt at goal but unfortunately it went slightly wide.

The girls would like to thank the Ulster coaches and Management team that looked after them while on tour and made it such an amazing experience.
