Win keeps Strollers on coat-tails of top sides

Wakehurst Strollers kept up the pressure on the top two sides in Junior Division Two of the Ballymena & Provincial League with a 3-1 home win over Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ on Saturday.

In the same division, Clough Rangers Athletic eventually completed a game against SPort & Leisure Swifts Reserves that had previously been abandoned but the local side went down by two goals to nil.

Antrim Rovers maintained their lead in Junior Division One, despite being held to a 2-2 draw by FC Whiteabbey.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Antrim Rovers 2, FC Whiteabbey 2: The Rovers headed the attacking play during the first-half and went in front after Darren Adair scored on the 22nd minute.

Half-time was then approaching when Darren Brammeld doubled the Rovers lead on the 35th minute only to see Gerard Southam pull a goal back for Whiteabbey on the 38th minute. The second half saw Whiteabbey go all-out for the equaliser but Rovers held them at bay until Jonny Montgomery scored on the 85th minute.

JUNIOR DIVISION TWO

Clough Rangers Athletic 0, Sport & Leisure Swifts Reserves 2: Sports led by a goal scored by Francis Harbinson in the game that was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch after 17 minutes had been played.

Clough had to chase the game from the start and though both teams created numerous chances to score none were scored until Neil Corr converted a penalty for the Spots on the 80th minute to secure the win.

Wakehurst Strollers 3, Ballynure Old Boys ‘B’ 1: Wakehurst went in front after John Alexander scored on the 4th minute and this goal separated the teams until David Higgins sequalised on the 45th minute.

Wakehurst went in front again after Paul Gilchrist scored on the 66th minute then sealed the win after Jamie Spiers scored on the 80th minute.
