Rovers continue good form as new year begins

Antrim Rovers started the new year in the same style as they finished 2014 as the Ballymena and Provincial League resumed at the weekend.

The Forum-based side moved eight points clear of Ballyclare Comrades Reserves at the top of Junior Division One after a crushing 7-1 win over Cookstown RBL on Saturday.

Results: Newtowne 2, Brantwood 2; Ballynure Old Boys 3, Dunloy 0; Desertmartin 3, Magherafelt Sky Blues 1.

Antrim Rovers 7, Cookstown RBL 1: Rovers’ good run of league and cup form continued in this game and after Matt Montgomery put them in front on the 23rd minute, two more goals scored by Darryl Brammeld and Darren Adair on the 25th and 30th minutes put their Cookstown opponents in big trouble.

RBL pulled a goal back when Dean Campbell scored on the 34th minute but then saw Darryl Brammeld score his second goal in the game on the 44th minute.

With the three goal cushion the Rovers struck well on the break with Darryl Brammeld scoring two more goals on the 55th and 65th minutes and Darren Adair sandwiched in between with this second goal on the 63rd minute.
