Council offers support scheme for elite athletes

British Superbike rider John Laverty has been benefitting from the Elite Athlete Support Scheme and working out at Antrim Forum Fitness Suite.

ANTRIM Borough Council is offering a support scheme as an incentive to its elite athletes.

The scheme is aimed at benefitting local athletes in their training and preparation for competition.

To qualify, athletes must have been born in, currently live or have lived in the Borough or be an active member of a sports club in the Borough.

They must also be competing at a minimum of regional level in their chosen sport.

Since launching this new scheme in 2012, three athletes have benefitted from a 50% reduction in gym membership and reduction on facility costs at Antrim Forum.

The options available include:

•50% reduction in Antrim Forum Spa and Fitness Membership (min age 16) ; and

•50% reduction on facility costs at Antrim Forum up to a certain value; or

•Support through Antrim Sports Advisory Association for Grant Aid assistance (over 25yrs old) or Enkalon Foundation/Antrim Borough Council Youth Sports Bursary (under 25yrs old)
