INDRAJEET Kamketar will almost certainly be re-engaged as Muckamore's overseas player for the 2009 season.
The popular Indian has made a big impact in his first season at Moylena and agreement on a new contract was reached last week following talks between the player and the cricket committee.
It is expected that the general committee which oversees the running of Muckamore Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club will rubber-stamp the recommendation at its next meeting later this month.
Kamtekar, who joined Muckamore after two successful seasons with Dunmurry, will make his farewell appearance of the season against Woodvale at Ballygomartin Road on Sunday, 24 hours after the First XI's Moylena meeting with Holywood, whose relegation worries increased with a five-wickets defeat by Downpatrick on Sunday.
Muckamore, on the other hand, are virtually certain of preserving their Section Two status after beating Lurgan by seven wickets at Moylena on Saturday. But Kamtekar is targeting a seventh win against Holywood to make safety an absolute certainty.
"I have enjoyed my first season at Muckamore and I'm looking forward to playing and coaching at the club next year. They are a great bunch of lads to be involved with," he said.
Club officials have been impressed by Kamtekar's contribution, both with his on-field performances as an all-rounder and his coaching role, and they are delighted that terms have been agreed for him to return next year.
Meanwhile, the Intermediate Cup final between Muckamore II and Laurelvale II will be played at Moylena on Friday, starting at 12 noon. Following two postponements, the NCU decided that each finalist should hold the trophy for six months. However, following representations from both teams, it was decided to make a third attempt to stage the match, with Muckamore winning the toss for the right to play on their home ground.
While Muckamore are bidding to put their name on the silverware for the first time, Laurelvale are seeking to capture the trophy for the fourth time in five years. They completed a hat-trick of triumphs from 2004-06 before their run of success was halted last season, when Derriaghy II won the cup.
