MARK Allen failed in his bid to win the Northern Ireland Trophy at the Watefront Hall in Belfast.
The 22-year-old Antrim left-hander, who has potted a place in snooker's elite top 16 in the coming season, was eliminated by Ali. Carter, losing the quarter-final match by five frames to two.

In earlier rounds, the former Northern Ireland champion defeated Dominic Dale 5-4 and followed up with a 5-3 win over ex-world champion Mark Williams.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the reigning world champion, won the tournament, beating surprise finalist Dave Harold by nine frames to three. The "Rocket", who picked up a cheque for £30,000, had a best-of-match break of 103.
