CHIMNEY Corner's preparations for the new season begin in earnest tonight (Tuesday) when they take on neighbours Ballymena United in their first pre-season friendly.
It will be a good test for Neil Candlish’s side against their senior neighbours, who are also under new management in the shape of Roy Walker.

While results in pre-season games matter little, Candlish will be looking for a morale-boosting run, ahead of the commencement of the new Interim League – in essence, the third tier of football in this country.

The composition for the new IFA Championship – which effectively replaces the first division – is now known and while Corner knew they were not going to be part of it this season as their ground doesn’t currently meet a number of criteria, the stringent guidelines will have a knock-on effect on Corner and their fixture list next term.

A number of well-established teams such as Dundela and Harland and Wolff Welders didn’t make the grade for the IFA Championship and they will drop into the same division as Corner, and will doubtless prove tough opponents.

Corner are also at home again this Saturday, against Championship side Ards.
