IT'S a busy one this weekend, as we have the Skerries road race on Friday and Saturday, then the next round of the Irish Clubmans Championship on the Sunday at Mondello.
I’m never sure why Skerries is on the Saturday, as its the only road race in Southern Ireland that is held like this.
Practice is Friday afternoon, with straight into racing on Saturday. Entries include Ryan Farquhar, Adrian Archibald, Keith Amor,
James Hillier, Gary Johnston, William and Michael Dunlop, Sam Dunlop, Victor Gilmore, Jeff Shaw, John Burrows, Davy Morgan and Paul Cranston.
Roads close on Friday at 2.30pm, with the first two races due after practice ends.On Saturday roads close at 9.30am.
Hopefully, having got Skerries out of the way safely, we are off to Mondello Park on the Sunday.
Thanks to Ivan Davidson I have the official championship tables as they stand at the moment. In the GP125 Newcomers class Scott Wilson is waltzing off with the championship.
The Comber lad did more or less the same thing last year with the Aprilia class, and now will need a couple of bad meetings to bring the other riders into the frame again. Wilson, from Comber, heads the table with 236 points.
In second place is Richard Glasgow. The Cookstown lad was carrying an injury to his scaphoid bone in his right hand after the last Mondello meeting, but hopefully he will be sorted out again before this weekend. Richard has 185 points.
Third place is held by Robert English, on 182 points, while his brother Christopher has 156, and is in fourth place. Karen Hadden from Newry is coming on really well, and despite a few crashes is still in with a shout of holding her top half dozen placing. She slipped off at the last round at Mondello when she was in third place, and looking like secopnd was not beyond her grasp. Karen has 119 points, while Carl Phillips, whose dad Joe is one of our top road racers, is in sixth position on 75 points.
The 125 Aprilia class is turning up some fantastic racing. Neil Glasgow, who is a cousin of GP125 rider Richard, heads this table, on 214 points. He has been pushed hard all season by Castleblaney lad Joseph Loughlin. Young Joseph has 209 points and has recently broken the lap record at Kirkistown for the Aprilia class.
Also still in the frame is Dromore lad Josh Cunningham. Josh is sitting on 187 points, 29 ahead of Florencecourt's Melissa Kennedy. As far as I can find out, Melissa is the first female to win a counting race for a National championship in Ireland. She took a race win at Mondello earlier in the season. Cathal Meere is in sixth place on 105 points.
The last two races at Mondello in the Pre 97 class were belters. Sean Smith heads the table here, with a total of 185 points. Big Seamus Meally is in second place with 173, while Scott Thompson has 166, in third.
Darren O'Dwyer, who shares a van to travel to races with Seanie Smith is in fourth position on 134 points. Drogheda man Cyril Traynor and James Higginson fill the next two places in the championship table with 110 and 91 points respectively.
The Bridgestone Supersport 600 class is also shaping up to have a great finale.
