Success for St Joseph’s
The assessment for the award was carried out on Monday 17 June, when the school’s work on protecting the environment was examined and approved for the award. The project in St Joseph’s was led by Mrs Ruth Mc Carry and the P7 children, whose work in auditing their school environment identified recycling, energy conservation and bio-diversity as the school’s areas for improvement. The P7 children provided every class with a blue bin to encourage paper recycling. They also encouraged and monitored the ‘switching off’ of computer screens and lights during lunch time and they even installed a camera in a bird box to observe and track bird life in the school’s grounds.
A big thank you goes to P7 pupils and Mrs McCarry who lead the initiative and encouraged school involvement and also to all pupils and staff who embraced the team’s ideas with enthusiasm. The school was supported throughout the programme by Declan Donnelly from Ballymoney Borough Council.
