Your views wanted on Allen Park development

ANTRIM Borough Council is inviting comments and suggestions on the plans for the Phase One development of Allen Park from all interested parties, individuals, groups or clubs.

The first phase of the new development will focus on a reconfiguration and large extension of the current Clubhouse, refurbishment of the driving range, extension to the car park and the addition of two fourth generation pitches including ball stop nets.

Alderman Sam Dunlop, Chair of the Development and Leisure Committee, said: “Antrim Borough Council is committed to the development of sport and physical activity within the Borough.

“This Allen Park project will greatly enhance the facilities available, encouraging people of all ages to get involved in sport and physical activity.”

Ivor McMullan, Assistant Director for Recreation at the Council, added: “Antrim Borough Council has been working closely with Antrim Golf Club for a number of years towards the continued improvement of golfing facilities and more recently with Chimney Corner Football Club in relation to the development of the pitches.

“It was only through Chimney Corner’s co-operation in releasing lands back to Council that we are able to facilitate this project.”

David Hamilton, Captain of Antrim Golf Club, said that any development of facilities at Allen Park “can only be good for sport in the Borough”.

“The Club has a keen interest in the overall development of the site but we have a particular interest in the Clubhouse, so we’re looking forward to the plans being circulated publically for comment and feedback,” he added.

Dominic Dewart, of Chimney Corner Football Club, invites members, parents and anyone interested in football or team games to comment on the proposed plans for the first phase of Allen Park Development.

“This is a great opportunity to develop the best facility possible for the future development of football and team sports,” Dominic said.

He added: The Club would encourage anyone with an interest to review the plans and pass your comments back to the Council.”

Plans will be on display until Monday, October 15 at Allen Park Club House, Chimney Corner Football Club or by logging onto www.antrim.gov.uk/allenpark

Feedback is welcome by writing in the comment books or by emailing activeantrim@antrim.gov.uk

Antrim Borough Council would also invite expressions of interest from potential users of the fourth generation pitches.

The first pitch is scheduled to be ready late summer 2013 and those who register their interest will be placed on a priority listing for bookings.

To register your interest, please email tracy.hefferon@antrim.gov.uk with details of potential days, dates, length of session, times and booking types.

Your expression of interest will be acknowledged in writing.
