RANDALSTOWN was awash with high visibility jackets last week as volunteers responded to the call to have a huge litter pick-up within the town centre and the surrounding area.

People came singly, in family units and in groups, most notably Explorer Scouts, GAA club members and Maine Integrated School Pupils.

Around 150 men, women and children found the task to be very worthwhile and enjoyable and reported a renewed sense of civic pride at the job accomplished.

Approximately 200 bags of rubbish, plastic and tin cans were collected. All materials for the operation were loaned free of charge and all recycable material disposed of through isl waste management.

Trevor clarke, local councillor and MLA had arranged council support and, together with his son also took part in the clean –up.

A new group, established as a subsidiary of Randalstown Chamber of Trade, has plans to renew the image of Randalstown which they feel has slipped badly over the last number of years.

Randalstown Chamber of Trade are delighted at the level of enthusiasm generated by this first project and hope that the group will go from strength to strength.
