A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after shots were fired at a house in Antrim in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Two people escaped injury after two shots were fired at a house in the Rathkyle, Bleerick area at around 5.25am.
“One round is believed to have penetrated a double-glazed kitchen window and embedded in a wall,” a police spokesperson said.
The detained man is currently helping police with their inquiries.
Alliance councillor Neil Kelly has condemned the shooting.
“There is absolutely no justification for guns to be used on our streets. Local people do not want this type of violence on our streets, they want to be able to get on with their lives without the fear of guns,” Cllr. Kelly said.
He added:”The people responsible for this attack are nothing more than a bunch of thugs who are offering nothing to our society. They need to be urgently apprehended by the police.”
Ulster Unionist councillor Adrian Watson added his condemnation and called for anyone with information on the attack to contact police.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at Antrim on 0845 600 8000. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
