Police appeal after ‘distraction burglary’

DETECTIVES in Antrim are appealing for information following a distraction burglary in the Clarke Court area of Antrim yesterday.

An 84-year-old woman answered a knock to her door at around 11am from a man claiming to represent the ‘Water Board’.

This male gained entry to the property and advised the householder that he needed to run her kitchen taps to check the water.

After several minutes the householder became suspicious and made the male leave.

A short time later she discovered a number of gold chains missing from a jewellery box in an upstairs room.

Police believe an accomplice entered the house and stole the jewellery while the first male kept the lady distracted in the kitchen.

Officers are appealing for information and witnesses and can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
