A PETITION with several thousand signatures of local parents and residents is to be handed to the Minister of Education to regarding the urgency for a new school building at Parkhall College.

Jean Black from Parent’s Voice presented a petition to local MLA Trevor Clarke who will then pass this on to the Education Minister, John O’Dowd.

The petition is aimed at keeping Parkhall College on the agenda up at Stormont and stress the urgency for a new school building that would meet the needs of both pupils and staff at Parkhall.

Local representatives will be present at the assembly when this petition is handed in, with the hope that progress is finally made on the issue.

Adrian Watson is on the local education committee and told the Antrim Times that after several years of debating, he said: “It has been on the debate for several years and has monopolised our meetings during that time. There should be support for the excellent teaching that takes place at the school.

“Dual sites is problematic financially and logistically, it is not the way forward.

“This issue has cross party support and it is important that we keep the name of Parkhall on the agenda.”
