Olympic role for local training consultancy

ANTRIM-based training consultancy, The Loop, received a huge vote of confidence from Olympic hopefuls after being chosen as the sole training consultancy to deliver vital ‘team building’ courses to the Great British Ice Hockey team, ahead of the Olympic Games.

Hailing from across the country and at the top of their game, many of the players selected for the GB team were season-long opponents - they were used to being pitted against each other, and crucially, had not played on the same team.

The Loop Training Consultancy was commissioned to galvanise ‘team spirit’ ahead of the team’s debut games and founder of The Loop, Harry Harpur, was given just one day to generate results amid intense player rivalry.

With hundreds of training consultancies across the UK and Ireland, it was a privilege for The Loop to be approached for such a prestigious yet challenging job.

“In our 10th year in business, we were thrilled to be chosen to deliver team building to the Great Britain Ice Hockey team,” Harry said.

He added: “The one-day training was extreme; I worked on the players’ mind-sets and the biggest challenge was to turn their season-long thoughts on their head - their adversaries had become fellow GB team players and it was crucial that they embraced their new pack and worked as a team. “The contact with Tony Hand, Manager of Team GB, was initially established thanks to Todd Kelman, GM of the Belfast Giants and his experiences of The Loop and the quality of courses that we deliver.”

In 2011, ahead of the Belfast Giants’ season, The Loop delivered a one-day team building session with the Giants under the management of Todd Kelman.

Todd said: “The impact that The Loop made on the Giants after just one day was immense. From a group of talented individuals, Harry helped to create a team with a shared vision through a unique and un-academic approach that was tailored to resonate with the players.”

Harry added: “Our training with the Belfast Giants stood us in good stead for the requirements of the GB Ice Hockey team. In Ice Hockey, transfers happen right up until the start of the season; therefore a new panel of players could potentially meet and have to bond within a matter of days before playing their first match.

“It’s at this point that The Loop really comes into its own. We have the experience and techniques to build a strong team and even in a short period of time, the results with both the Belfast Giants and the GB Ice Hockey team were clearly evident.”

The Great British Ice Hockey team is the latest addition to The Loop’s formidable client list in the sporting arena.

The Loop has also delivered training for the management teams of current European Champions, Chelsea FC and also Celtic FC, and has worked, on a more local level, with Ballymena RFC.

Harry established The Loop Training Consultancy 10 years ago and the company has vast experience with some of the most-recognised brands in the UK, including UK retail giants, Sears and The White Company.

The company is highly-regarded for its exclusive Leadership Programme, which is delivered quarterly.

The next Leadership Programme takes place on August 27 and 28, September 18 and 19, and October 16 and 16, at Galgorm Resort, Ballymena.
