NOMINATIONS for the Antrim Community Excellence Awards 2012, in association with Tesco, are now open.

The nomination forms are being distributed to every home and business in the borough in Council Eye magazine.

There are 10 different categories: Good Neighbour, Champion, Personal Achievement, Individual Volunteering - Long Service, Individual Volunteering-Contribution, Community/Voluntary Group - Best Newcomer, Community/Voluntary Group - Contribution, Environment, Randox Business and Culture, Arts & Sports.

Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Paul Michael, said: “What makes these prestigious awards so special is the fact that the winners are nominated by their local community, the people for whom they do so much.

“While the nominees may not seek acclaim or recognition for the work that they do, they are obviously so highly thought of that someone takes the time to complete a nomination form on their behalf.

“The nomination forms are very easy to complete. So, please take a few minutes to fill out a form and make sure someone you know gets the recognition you think they deserve.”

Lesley Kirkpatrick, Community Champion based at Tesco Extra Antrim, said: “We are delighted to continue our support for this prestigious event for the third year.

“Because we are located at the heart of Antrim, it is very fitting that Tesco should support the Antrim Community Excellence Awards. Tesco would like to wish all nominees the very best of luck.”

Councillor Brian Graham, Chair of the Council’s Resources Committee, added: “Every year, when we receive the nomination forms, we are amazed at how many people go out of their way to help others. However, sometimes the only way we know about these people is through the nomination form. That’s why it is so very important for people to pick up a pen and complete a nomination form now.”

Friday, April 27 at 5pm is the deadline for lodging nomination forms for this year’s Antrim Community Excellence Awards.

Additional nomination forms are also available from Antrim Civic Centre, 50 Stiles Way, Antrim; Tesco, Antrim; The Old Courthouse; Antrim Forum; Allen Park; The Forge, Randalstown; ARCHES House, Randalstown; Toome House and Community Centres, Libraries and GP surgeries throughout the Borough. The form can also be downloaded from the Council’s website at www.antrim.gov.uk/aceawards
