SOUTH Antrim MP William McCrea has praised the generosity of local firms whose combined donation at a recent Business Breakfast he hosted has raised a total of £977.50 for the mental health charity MindWise.

Mr McCrea was in Ballyclare on Wednesday afternoon to visit the charity’s resource centre on the Rashee Road and to present a cheque to Area Manager, Jackie McCaughey and Chief Executive, Bill Halliday.

Mr McCrea stated that last month’s Business Breakfast at the Templeton Hotel had provided an excellent opportunity for MindWise to showcase its work in the local area.

Having previously visited the Supported Housing Service at Abbeyside, Antrim, Mr McCrea said he was keen to continue to promote awareness of the charity and of the valuable work that is being carried out within the local community.

“I was delighted to be able to visit the Ballyclare Resource Centre this week and to speak not only with the staff and volunteers but also with the large number of people who make active use of the services delivered by MindWise in the local area,” Mr McCrea said.

He added: “Mental illness is so often an issue that people do want to discuss out loud, and I was delighted when Jackie McCaughey agreed to attend the Business Breakfast and to allow those present to support the important work that they do in the Ballyclare and Antrim areas.

“I want to pass on my sincere thanks to all those businesses who took time out from their busy schedules to attend the breakfast and also to those who could not be present but still made donations to this very worthwhile cause.

“MindWise does an excellent job of supporting individuals affected by severe mental illness and other mental health difficulties, and hopefully we will not only see their work continue but expand in the local area.”
