MP praises Rehability book

SOUTH Antrim DUP MP William McCrea, has congratulated Antrim based mental health support charity, Rehability, on the publication of their latest collection of short stories and poems which was officially launched at Clotworthy House on Friday.

Speaking at the launch, Mr McCrea commended all those involved in the compilation and publication of ‘Free to Fly’ which has been funded by the John Moores Foundation, and took the opportunity to highlight the admirable service that Rehability has provided to the local community.

“The Rehability Group in Antrim is well known for its service to the community in providing 365 days a year service for people with mental illness, which includes the advancement of education, the relief of financial hardship, and active help and assistance to reduce social isolation and combat loneliness,” Mr McCrea said.

He added: “I commend Rehability on its ‘health’ as opposed to ‘illness’ focus which is crucial in the rehabilitation of those suffering from mental illness or mental isolation.

“This new book seeks to create awareness of mental health issues in the form of short stories and poems, detailing some of the moving encounters experienced by the inspirational members and volunteers of Rehability.

“The work carried out by Rehability is, therefore, essential to the care and support of these individuals in our community.

“I would like to wish the organisation every success in its future endeavours in promoting greater awareness of mental health, and I also congratulate all those who participated in expressing their creativity, imagination, confidence and development.

“I readily commend this publication to the local community and trust that it will be warmly received by readers across the borough and beyond.”
