Maguire calls for no staff car parking charges
SINN Féin Councillor Noel Maguire has reiterated the call to Health Minister Edwin Poots to abandon any plans to charge staff for parking at the Antrim and Causeway Hospitals.
Attending a protest outside Antrim Area Hospital Councillor Maguire said: “I attended the protest to lend my support to the staff of Antrim Area Hospital who are now facing what is effectively a charge to come to work. It is unfair to ask people to pay a charge to park in their place of work and I will be raising it with the Trust.
“Basically what is happening here is that the Health Service is expecting staff to supplement any lack of funding from the British Government.
“These charges represent yet further cuts to wages and will therefore have a devastating impact on the take home pay of people at the lowest end of the pay scale.
“Health staff have already been on the receiving end of cuts to wages and pensions; they cannot be penalised now for attending their place of work.
“It is totally unacceptable. These charges could force people out of the health service, as it may no longer be economically viable for many to remain at work.
