THREE local community development practitioners were presented with graduation certificates by the Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Paul Michael, recently.

Lorraine Elliott, a community volunteer from Templepatrick, Wendy Kerr from South Antrim Rural Network based in Randalstown and David Boyle from Randalstown Arches Association all successfully completed a year-long Diploma in Community Development Practice through the University of Ireland, Galway.

Kerry Brady, Community Support Officer at Antrim Council, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that local people involved in community development work are keen to gain qualifications which complement their hands on experience. Some of the topics covered during the course included Community Leadership, Programme Planning and Management, Community Development Policy & Practice and Community Auditing and Research Methods.

“The council was delighted to be able to provide the funding to assist in the completion of this very worthwhile qualification.”

The diploma was funded by Antrim Borough Council through their Training Bursary Grant Scheme and was delivered in partnership with Newtownabbey Borough Council.
