First meeting of Lough Neagh Dollaghan Trust

COUNCILLOR Paul Michael has chaired the first meeting of the new Lough Neagh Dollaghan Trust, which met at Antrim civic centre on Wednesday evening.

Cllr Michael praised those members of the angling community who turned up in large numbers to support the views and actions of the new trust.

He stated that Anglers were concerned at the alarming levels of illegal netting, taking place on Lough Neagh and the effects its having on future fish stocks in our local rivers.

The former mayor said that recent police reports from Lough Neagh showed that illegal netting was taking its toll on stocks, he said: “Police working with DCAL Fishery Protection Officers seized 40 stone of illegally netted fish, over thousand fish and 5500 yards of netting.

“These are alarming figures which will affect tourism, now and in the future and Antrim Borough has a vested interest.
