Commemorative plaque unveiled at Tesco store
THE Mayor of Antrim Mayor, Councillor Oran Keenan, unveiled a plaque at the Tesco Antrim store last week, to commemorate the Massereene Hospital which previously occupied the site.
Colin Hampsey, corporate affairs manager for Tesco in Northern Ireland, said: “Alderman Sam Dunlop approached us and suggested that as the Massereene Hospital had been the previous occupier on the site for so long, it would be appropriate to mark this in some way.
“We thought this was a great way of marking the history of our current site and have worked closely with Alderman Dunlop to produce this plaque, which includes a picture of the former hospital that cared for so many people over the years.”
The Mayor, Councillor Oran Keenan, added: "This plaque keeps the memory of the Massereene Hospital to the forefront of people’s minds. It was a very important part of the town before the new hospital was built and this plaque is a fantastic way to honour the memory of the facility and the hard work and dedication of the staff who cared for the people of Antrim and the surrounding areas.”
