OVER £4,000 has been raised following a charity football match in Randalstown on Friday night.

The event, held at Neillsbrook, was organised in memory of local siblings William and Heather Beggs, who both sadly passed away within the past year from cancer.

A grand total of £4,700, with some donations still to be received, following the football night, with a specially created William and Heather Beggs Charity Challenge Cup.

Sadly missed by all who knew them, the memory of siblings Heather and William and their time in the Macmillan Palliative Care Unit in Antrim has inspired a heartfelt flurry of donations and fundraising for the unit.

A total of £1,695 was donated after both funerals, and £1,010 from donations and a pub quiz at O’Kane’s Bar

The fundraising continues in Randalstown with the Miss Randalstown Competition and Fashion Show in Truffles on Tuesday, June 19.

Local businesswomen Karen, from P’Hairfection, and Julie-Ann, from The Vintage Rose, organise this annual event.

This year their chosen charity is the Macmillan Unit in Antrim in memory of Willie and Heather.

“We’ve had a great response from sponsors this year and we are delighted to be offering a photo shoot with Local Women Magazine and the winner will have her photo on the cover of July’s issue,” Karen said.

She added: “Chrissie and the Crew are opening the event and Johnny Brooks (Garth Brooks Tribute Act) will be singing during the evening.

“We also have a gorgeous teddy bear in the reception of the Macmillan Unit for a Name-the-Teddy competition and the winner will be announced during the event.”

Julie-Ann added: “We have been saddened by the loss of Heather and Willie and are very appreciative of the truly wonderful work all the staff at Macmillan do and we are also mindful of all the other family and friends that are supported by this amazing place.”

The doors open at Truffles on June 19 at 6.45pm, with £10 admission and champagne reception.
