A CELEBRATION event was held last week for a local couple who are retiring as foster carers.

Charlie and Betty Malone from Randalstown have been Northern Health and Social Care Trust foster carers since May 1993.

They have had many placements and have undertaken all types of fostering throughout the years; respite, short-term, emergency and most recently a mother and baby placement.

They have been well renowned for their willingness to take children and young people of all ages and nationalities at all times of the day and night.

In April 2008 the Malones were nominated for Foster Carers of the Year. At the Foster Carers’ Ball Charlie and Betty were announced runners up.

Charlie and Betty said at that time that they were very surprised to be nominated as they did not feel that they had done anything special or out of the ordinary.

However, the NHSCT’s Family Placement Team has always valued their commitment to fostering and wish to recognise their dedication to the young people who have been in their care.

A spokesperson said: “Charlie and Betty will be greatly missed in the fostering world but we would like to take this opportunity to wish them well in their retirement.”
