Appeal for calm after Twelfth bonfire set on fire

A LOCAL community group has hit out at those resonsible for setting fire to the Twelfth bonfire in Randalstown at the weekend.

The bonfire in Neillsbrook was burnt in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for Randalstown Cultural Awareness Association said it followed on from trouble the previous weekend between rival factions.

“We call for a greater police presence to deal with this problem as the Twelfth approaches,” an RCAA spokesperson said.

He added: “Tensions are high after this latest incident and we urge everyone to be vigilant.

“We call for all political and community representatives to use their influences within the community to ease the tension.

“This is a problem that must be addressed and will not go away otherwise.”
