Antrim Council applauds work of Kinship Care

ANTRIM Borough Council has applauded the work of Kinship Care following attendance by representatives of the organisation at Thursday’s full meeting of council.

Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Paul Michael, said: “Kinship Care supports grandparents and other family relatives who are caring for children of their extended families.

“These are some of the most vulnerable children who for a variety of reasons are unable to live with their own parents.

“Kinship carers do an amazing job and often take on the care of children in very difficult circumstances.”

It is estimated that there are 8,000 – 10,000 children being raised by relatives and family friends in Northern Ireland.

“Kinship Care provides free, impartial and experienced advice and I would encourage anyone who finds themselves in the position of caring for children of family or friends to contact them,” Cllr. Michael said.

He added: “Antrim Borough Council endorses the excellent work Kinship Care undertakes to support these families and wishes them every success in the future.”
