Work is set to begin on the new Leisure Centre for Crumlin next Monday, December 16.
Under the redevelopment plants, the current community centre will be turned into a multi-activity sports hub.
Antrim Council is advising that during the initial development works, some of the facilities will remain open including the squash court, sports hall and play park.
However the gym, kitchen, social area and outdoor pitches will be closed to members of the public.
The footpath which runs through the community centre grounds will also close during the contract period to avoid risks to the public from heavy equipment and machinery.
Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann said: “Following a major extension to the building, the new Crumlin Community Centre will include a full size sports hall, fitness suite, conference rooms, changing areas and reception area.
“Outside will be three new third generation outdoor pitches suitable for soccer, rugby and Gaelic sports. It will certainly be a welcome addition to the Crumlin area.”
More information will follow in the New Year as the project unfolds.
The council says that whilst there will be some inconvenience to customers as the work progresses, it is hoped that the improved facilities for the people of Crumlin will more than make up for it. I
t is envisaged that the first phase will be completed early Summer 2014, with an estimated project completion date of Christmas 2014.
