Town to host youth-led summer festival

somewhereto_ in association with PLACE are helping young people find unused spaces in Antrim to host a three-week youth-led summer festival.

Organisers of the nationwide legacy project - funded by a £7m injection from the Big Lottery Fund which helps young people aged 16–25 access unused spaces for free across the UK - will be hosting an open information session tonight (Tuesday, April 29) from 6pm until 8pm in Antrim Castle Gardens.

Working in partnership with local independent charity PLACE, the Northern Ireland Built Environment Centre, which connects and equips communities with the skills to make change, will give local youngsters the opportunity to find out more about what’s on offer and how they can get involved with the up-coming festival.

There will be access to free, flexible work, studio, and performance space, plus expert mentorship and hands-on experience.

Rebekah MCabe, Regional Delivery Partner of somewhereto_ and Creative Producer at PLACE, said: “We’re really excited to be bringing this festival to Antrim in the summer.

“The spirit of the event is very much one of collaboration and co-creation, and the open session on Tuesday evening is a chance for people to pop in, meet the team, and find out more about how they can get involved and contribute to the festival programme, whether that’s performing, selling their one-off designs, mentoring young entrepreneurs, or helping with the day-to-day running of the events.”

Inspiring a new generation of visionaries to make their ideas happen, summer of somewhereto_ a three-week long festival taking place in July, will be co-created by young people themselves, bringing vacant spaces to life in Antrim Town Centre.

Showcasing the best of the region’s young talent in art, enterprise, and creativity, this festival will provide a vibrant platform to support, develop, and celebrate the best of Northern Ireland’s up-and-coming creative entrepreneurs.

Anyone between 16–25 are welcome to join the conversation and be part of the UK-wide movement to bring youth creativity to the forefront of our town centres.

Since launching in June 2010, somewhereto_ has unlocked over 400,000 square foot of space across the UK which was previously empty or underused, the rent value of if leveraged which would exceed £2m.
