The success of the 2013 Irish Game Fair & Flavour Fine Food Festival and its contribution to the year-long ‘The Gathering’ tourism initiative has been marked with the presentation of a certificate personally signed by Irish President, Michael D Higgins.
Albert Titterington, Director of Great Game Fairs of Ireland, spoke of his delight at this latest honour for an event which is widely recognised as Ireland’s largest game or country sports fair in Ireland and a key country sports and lifestyle event within the European country sports calendar.
In the stunning grounds of Shane’s castle, it is also undoubtedly one of the most scenically situated.
Mr Titterington said: “We were delighted to receive recognition of the important tourism role played by the 2013 Irish Game Fair at Shane’s Castle and its contribution to the hugely ambitious Irish Gathering tourism initiative.
“The growth in visitor numbers, directly attributable to The Gathering, was estimated to have been worth approximately €170million in revenue and we were delighted to have helped to direct some of that revenue and heightened tourism profile towards Antrim.
“Our ‘sister’ event at Birr Castle received similar recognition from ROI President Michael D Higgins. The two awards join other official recognition of the important role that our fairs have played in generating tourism income and traffic to their host areas.
“We are particularly pleased that our two fairs were the only country sports events to receive such recognition and that the Shanes Castle event was one of the very few Northern Ireland events to receive such a certificate.”
The 2014 Irish Game Fair & Flavour Fine Food Festival will be held on June 28 and 29. For further details visit www.irishgamefair.com or call 028 44839167.
