Antrim Borough Council has launched their Winter Wise booklet at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.

The Council believes in putting its community at the heart of everything it does and this booklet has been developed with the aim of helping them to Keep Warm, Keep Well and Keep Watch.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann said: “Winter Wise is an extremely useful tool for the community which presents all the information they need in a convenient, compact way. As well as providing information on the various initiatives the Council has in place including Winter Packs, Keep Warm Packs, Oil Stamps Saving Scheme, Oil Clubs and Electric Blanket Testing, the booklet is also designed to bring together information and practical tools from a number of key agencies.”

Councillor Adrian Cochrane Watson, Chair of Antrim Borough Council’s Environment & Borough Services Committee said: “I am extremely proud of the Winter Wise booklet. As a Council we see our role as Civic leaders important in encouraging collaborative working across key agencies to benefit our community. Not only does the booklet signpost residents to Council services, but the whole range of agencies which can help throughout the winter months.

“This includes information on roads, health, pets and freezing pipes which complements the services and advice that the Council can offer in terms of keeping active, keeping warm, flooding and the financial concerns surrounding these issues.”

Health Minister Edwin Poots said: “I want to commend Antrim Borough Council for producing this booklet, it offers practical advice and helpful contact details for various organisations, as well as information for local available services in the area.

“Winter can be a harsh time of year for many and there needs to be continued commitment to helping people stay warm and well in their homes. The Winter Wise booklet will benefit the people of Antrim by giving them easy access to advice and local information.”
