Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has handed over keys to residents in a new housing scheme at Maybin Park in Kells.

The development, on the site of the former PSNI station, has been built by Triangle Housing Association and provides six new family houses for applicants on the social housing waiting list.

The two and three bedroom properties incorporate the very latest in energy saving, design and security features, including roof solar panels to cut down on heating costs.

The Minister, in handing over keys to the first tenants, James and Lucinda Smyth, said: “Through the Social Housing Development Programme I am committed to delivering increased numbers of social houses all across Northern Ireland. This latest development is part of the work being done to help sustain rural communities. The properties here at Maybin Park will provide a high quality family home to James and Lucinda and five other families.

“Last year the rural strategy provided 225 new homes in 25 separate locations with starts made to a further 105 houses in 15 other areas.

“My Department recognises the importance of rural areas as places to live and work. This extra provision will hopefully help build a vibrant countryside where people want to live.”

The Minister concluded: “Triangle Housing Association and the Housing Executive are to be commended for putting together such a high quality package.”
