DUP Councillor Nigel Kells has been selected as the party’s Chief Whip on the new Antrim and Newtownabbey Council.
Mr Kells was the first person to be elected to the new NI super-councils, polling 662 first preference votes and with transfers, he was elected first.
“Now that the dust has settled I just want to thank everyone who came out to vote for me at the May 22 local government elections,” Mr Kells said.
He added: “The reception I received from the people of Antrim was truly overwhelming and I will not forget it.
“My election promise was to continue working hard, as I have done in the community on the bread and butter issues that effect everyone.
“This is a promise I fully intend to deliver on over the next five years and since my election the constituency work has been steady.
“I also recognise that with the merger of Antrim and Newtownabbey district councils, comes challanges and I will do everything within my power to ensure Antrim has the strongest possible voice on the new council.”
