Antrim visit by Minister David Ford JC14

Antrim visit by Minister David Ford JC14

Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership welcomed Justice Minister, David Ford, to the Greystone area of Antrim recently to view the borough’s successful Community Safety Warden Scheme in operation.

The Minster undertook a patrol of the area with the Community Safety Wardens and attended a meeting in Greystone Primary School, where he was provided with a concise overview of the role and achievements of the scheme.

Members of local community groups, as well as Antrim PCSP members, were in attendance to show support for the scheme and provided examples of how it has benefited them.

The Community Safety Wardens scheme has been in operation since June 2010 and addresses low level anti-social behaviour and fear of crime.

Community Safety Wardens seek to engage with anyone participating in anti-social behaviour. A key part of their role is developing relationships with local communities and groups of young people, which is crucial in assisting the wardens in tackling anti-social behaviour. They have proved a valuable additional resource within local communities.

The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate the success of the scheme, which is part funded by the Department of Justice, to the Justice Minister.
