Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership have launched a new anti-burglary campaign targeting Heating Oil Theft.

At a meeting of Crumlin Oil Club held in Boyle’s Bar, Crumlin on Thursday, those assembled were made aware of the campaign by Chairman of Antrim Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Councillor Noel Maguire.

PSNI Crime Prevention Officer, Michael Green, was on hand to give important information and advice on how best to secure the perimeter of your property and safeguard your oil tank.

Councillor Noel Maguire commented: “Antrim PCSP has responded to community concerns regarding the severe impact heating oil theft has on victims.

“This awareness raising campaign highlights the importance of community involvement both in promoting the message but also in reporting any suspicious activity to the police immediately.

“I would encourage people to be vigilant, not only of their own property, but of their neighbours property too. By working together and taking some simple measures we can make it difficult for thieves to operate in Antrim Borough and reduce the number of victims of crime within our community.”

PCSP member and member of Crumlin Oil Club, Eamonn McGuckin added: “Having been a victim of oil theft myself, I know only too well the impact this type of theft has on victims. Soaring costs have made heating oil an attractive target.

“I welcome this campaign across the Borough of Antrim and encourage everyone to access the information available and take simple precautions to protect their property.”

Information leaflets and oil tank stickers are available from Antrim PCSP. For further information contact Antrim PCSP on 028 9446 3113.
