Some of the winners of 2013 Antrim Community Excellence Awards join Chair of Resources Committee, Councillor Roy Thompson and Vice Chair of Resources Committee, Alderman Drew Ritchie for the launch of the 2014 Antrim Community Excellence Awards.

Antrim Borough Council is delighted to announce that nominations for the Antrim Community Excellence Awards 2014 are now open.

Monday, May 19 at 12 noon is the deadline for lodging nominations for this year’s Awards.

There are nine different categories - Good Neighbour; Champion; Personal Achievement; Individual Volunteering-Long Service; Individual Volunteering-Contribution; Community/Voluntary Group – Contribution; Environment; Randox Business Award and Culture, Arts & Sports.

Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann said: “What makes these prestigious Awards so special is the fact that the winners are nominated by their local community, the people for whom they do so much.

“I would encourage everyone to take a few minutes to fill out a nomination form. It might just help someone to get the recognition they deserve.”

Councillor Roy Thompson, Chair of the Council’s Resources Committee, added: “Every year, when we receive the nomination forms, we are amazed at how many people go out of their way to help others.

“However, sometimes the only way we know about these people is through the nomination form. That’s why it is so very important for people to pick up a pen or go online and complete a nomination form now.”

Alderman Drew Ritchie, Vice Chair of the Resources Committee, said: “We are delighted that this year’s Awards are supported by several new sponsors, details of whom will be announced shortly.

“The companies involved are delighted to have the opportunity to come on board and recognise the importance that the Council put on valuing our local, unsung heroes.”

Nomination forms will be distributed across the Borough, can be completed online by visiting www.antrim.gov.uk/aceawards or a copy can be posted to you by phoning 028 9446 3113
