Decision deferred on apartments plan
Planners had recommended approval of the application by Alan Francey to build four apartments within a two storey block on the site of an existing dwelling at 45 Antrim Road at its junction with the Old Antrim Road.
The committee was informed that the application, which is a renewal of a previous approval, comprised two two-bedroom and two one-bedroom apartments. They were also told by a Senior Planner that while the Department was of the opinion that the proposal “will not create any unacceptable adverse impacts”, residents had objected over its potential impact on the built character of the area and overlooking.

Hide AdDuring discussion on the application, Cllr Paul Reid expressed concern over provision within the application for “five parking spaces for four units” and this was echoed by Paul Frew MLA who addressed the meeting.
“This is most definitely a road safety issue,” stated Mr Frew who also spoke out in support of objectors’ concerns.
The committee went on to support Cllr Stephen Nicholl’s suggestion to defer the matter and “reconsult with statutory consultees to look into all issues before making a determination”.
