ROADS Service has announced plans to carry out resurfacing on the northbound section of the M22 Motorway between Junction 2 Ballygrooby and Junction 3 Moneynick, near Randalstown.
The improvement works are due to commence on Friday, July 3 and will run for four days.

Mark McPeak, Roads Service’s Project Manager, said: “These essential works will strengthen this section of the M22 so that it can carry today’s very high traff
ic volumes, provide good skidding resistance, an even running surface, prevent the formation of surface defects and reduce road noise, thereby improving the safety and comfort of road users.

"The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, local residents and business, however some disruption will be unavoidable."

Mr McPeak said the work has been scheduled during the summer months to take advantage of the reduced traffic flows and will be restricted to weekend and overnight and working.

"However, some disruption will be inevitable and we would ask that motorists and those affected by the diversion route, be patient as these essential works progress," he added.

For safety reasons, it will be essential to close the M22 northbound between Junction 2 and Junction 3 at various times throughout the duration of the works, however, one lane will be kept open during the day at the weekend and two lanes on weekdays.

The full motorway closure details are as follows: Friday, July 3 from 8pm until Saturday, July 4 at 9am; Saturday, July 4 from 7pm until Sunday, July 5 at 11am; Sunday, July 5 from 7pm until Monday, July 6 at 6am.

During these closures a diversion will be signposted via A6 Castle Road; Main Street, Randalstown; New Street, Randalstown; and A6 Moneynick Road.
