ANTRIM Agricultural Society has revealed a packed programme of family fun for this year's 102nd Antrim Show, which takes place this Saturday, July 26, on Greenmount College grounds, Dublin Road, Antrim.
A new attraction for the main arena’s schedule will be the Pony Club Games where the breathtaking speed and agility of the competitors is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. Also, the show jumping events have been expanded to seven competitions, includi
ng an amateur event for the first time in recent years.

In addition to the sheep, goats, cattle, horses and ponies on display, the public can expect to enjoy super-sized vegetables, baked goods, floral displays, Primary School art, crafts, country sports, and even Young Farmers drenched in water! Alongside all this activity there’ll be plenty of side shows and attractions to keep kids of all ages amused.

Linda Davis, Show Secretary, said: "We look forward to hosting a fun-packed day of family entertainment. If the weather is kind to us, that will be the icing on the cake!

“The Show is greatly indebted to Antrim Borough Council, CAFRE and to all of the Show’s sponsors, supporters and stewards. The impressive array of awards and prizes made possible through sponsorship helps us attract many exhibitors to come and show their livestock, retaining our reputation as one of the top One Day Agricultural events in the province."

On the day entries

Entries for the Equestrian Section, Horticulture & Children’s Pet Show can be taken up to and including Show Day.

Outside Trade space is still available for anyone who wishes to take advantage of the audience annually attracted by the Show’s programme of events. Contact Antrim Show Secretary, Linda Davis on tel. 9084 9466 or antrimshowsec@hotmail.com for more details.

In the Home Industries and Horticulture marquee there is always great competition and a splendid array of exhibits. The strong competition in the Schools section looks set to continue with ‘Living Creatures’ being the theme this year. The Show is greatly indebted to Logwood Plant Centre, Standing Stone Potatoes and Tesco, Antrim for their sponsorship in this marquee.

Other Highlights

A popular attraction is the Children’s Pet Show with cash prizes for the winners and a small prize for all participants, sponsored and judged by Clare Veterinary Group.

The County Antrim Competitions Day will be back again this year, bringing many YFC activities and attractions while testing the Young Farmers abilities, technically, mentally and physically, with a large dose of fun thrown in and probably a bucket or two of water!

The Vintage Tractor Display sponsored by Agricultural Contractor Alistair Lindsay always proves very popular. It colourfully illustrates how farm mechanisation has moved on.

Young women should remember to dress to impress, as the hunt will also take place on Show Day for next year’s Show Queen.
