WITH the World's Biggest Coffee Morning due to take place on September 25, local councillor and MLA Trevor Clarke has given his backing to the campaign.
Following the success of his coffee morning last year, which raised in excess of £1,000, Mr Clarke will be hosting a similar event at the Royal British Legion Club in Antrim on Friday, September 25,

"I would like to build on last year's total, an
d would welcome everyone to attend," Mr Clarke said.

The event will run from 10am to 12noon and will include tea, coffee, tray bakes and scones.

"Why not come along and join in as it’s all for a good cause and we are trying to beat last year's total in Northern Irelandby £60,000 so all help will be appreciated," Mr Clarke said.

Last year 45,000 coffee mornings took place around the UK, raising £7.5 million. In Northern Ireland there were 500 coffee mornings raising a fantastic £190,000. This year it is hoped that £9.6 Million will be raised nationwide with £250,000 in NI alone.

Mr Clarke said: "It is something very close to all our hearts and I would urge people to help in any possible way they can. In the UK, one in three people are affected by cancer and two million people have cancer or have experienced it. I know that a considerable number of constituents have personal experience of the problems a cancer diagnosis can bring to both patients and their family, and I know that Macmillan has been there to support many of those in need.

"Macmillan Cancer Support is there for the people from the moment they are diagnosed, with medical and practical help, as well as emotional and financial support. This is the reason I am urging everyone to get involved in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. It’s an easy and fun way to raise money for Macmillan, and every penny raised will help people with cancer.

“I feel these events are extremely worthwhile and a substantial amount of Macmillan’s resources stem from money raised through such events.

"I would also like to remind everyone involved the importance of filling out the Gift Aid sheet, as this will allow Macmillan to claim a further 25 per cent from the Government and will be a great helping hand in achieving this year’s target."
