EVERYDAY life doesn't leave you a lot of time to make sure your hair is sitting as flawlessly as you want it, but help is at hand with some top tips from Lorna Gamble from the award-winning salon, The Sitting Room.
The wash and go routine isn't rocket science but most people spend time blaming the over use of hair products on causing dull hair when in fact the real reason behind it is their 'splash-dash' approach to washing hair.

Getting this right is integral in achieving those luscious locks.

DRY RUN

Start by using a wide tooth comb through dry hair before wetting. Remove knots from the ends and gradually work your way up the hair shaft as combing from root to tip will cause untold damage. Combing not only removes tangles but also helps shift dust and dirt and is the first step to having truly clean hair.

Top Tip: Use Laminate Detangle Milk, this helps comb hair if it is tangled.

GET WET

Barely soak the hair from root to tip, using the mentality that the more water you use the less shampoo is needed. To get a good cleansing lather use warm water and gently smooth, then run your fingers over and through the hair to make sure it's thoroughly wet.

LATHER UP

Pour the shampoo in palm of the hand and rub hands together before smoothing shampoo over the hair, then massage scalp with fingers for 30 seconds. Run fingers through the hair from front to back every now and again to avoid tangles, distributing the lather down the hair shaft towards the end.

Top Tip: Always read the instructions on the bottle so you know exactly how much to use, if you are using salon brands it's probably a lot less than you think as they are more concentrated.

RINSE

When rinsing, double check that all lather has gone in order to avoid dulling residue in the hair. One rinse of shampoo is enough if you wash your hair daily, otherwise rinse through twice especially if you commonly use styling products as they build up in the hair.

SMOOTH ON

Shampoo can cause cuticles on the hair to get ruffled, conditioner smoothes them down again as well as giving the hair a better shine. Use a small amount in your hands and smooth through then rinse again. A good conditioner will act instantly so rinse out thoroughly for 30-60 seconds, it's also best to rinse a third time to ensure that all you're left with will be silky smooth hair.

Top Tip: Conditioning does more than moisturise the hair, it can penetrate deep into the hair shaft and act as a repellent to weak hair, leaving it in better condition. Skipping this process is definitely a false economy.

WRAP IT UP

Wrap up the hair in a towel, fold it rather than twist as this can weaken the hair. Pat dry to absorb excess moisture, never rub dry because this leaves the hair frizzy and damaged. Use a wide toothed comb again to remove any tangles brushing from the end to top.

Top Tip: To remove build up of dull or waxy residue apply shampoo to dry hair. Work into lather before adding water, this works as a pre-shampoo and helps break down deposits before you cleanse your hair.
