WITH the anti-climax to the party season upon us many may be experiencing a lull in the glamour department.
After going into overdrive as the all-important parties approached, the New Year may see many of us dealing with the after affects of late nights, last minute shopping, and general overindulgence.
Add to this the extra nuisance of a cold, bringi
ng red noses, chapped lips and dry skin to the table and January can be a very unforgiving month indeed.
With this in mind Joanne Cushenan, beauty consultant, at The Sitting Room offers some season-defying solutions.
Q1: After having a runny nose over Christmas my lips are all chapped and hard. Every time I think they have healed I seem to crack them open again. Any advice? Alana Stewart.
Joanne: Alana this is a very common problem at this time of year and, like you are experiencing, when lips get badly damaged it is very hard to give them suitable time to heal. The main problem is the mornings - after a nights sleep are lips may have dried out slightly and it is all too easy to damage them as soon as you wake by talking or even yawning. AVEDA All-sensitive Moisturizer is a moisturising fluid blended with vitamins and mild plant emollients, including 10 Ayurvedic herbs - it is designed to relieve irritating dryness and more importantly is aroma-neutral so you can apply it liberally without worrying that it may sting chapped lips or affect your sleep. The best tip I can offer is to apply liberally before sleep and if possible try to keep it by the bed and apply again 'first thing' to help ease your lips back into use. For use during the day AVEDA also have a Lip Saver balm with natural waxes to seal in moisture.
Q2: I currently have a cold - the third in as many months and I always get really puffy eyes. This is something that I can't hide on a night out and was wondering if there is anything I can use that will help me? Tanya Rainey.
Joanne: Again Tanya AVEDA has a product designed for this very problem, Tourmaline Charged Eye Creme. The blend includes finely powdered tourmaline and Indian pennywort to reduce puffiness, brighten dark circles and energise skin.
Q3: I work outdoors a lot and every year I get dry skin that often peels off in patches. This is very unattractive and I am determined I won't let it happen this year although I have tried a few products and am not convinced they are working. Ruth Bingham.
Joanne: Ruth first and foremost it is very important that you moisturise thoroughly every morning and for those extra windy days be very generous when applying. A tip for the evening would be to use AVEDA's Intensive Hydrating Masque. As the name suggests it rehydrates the skin with a surge of moisturising aloe, kelp and lavender.
