MIVAN has secured two major museum fit-out projects in London and Glasgow in schemes totalling £6 million.
The Antrim-based construction firm is to undertake work on the £4.4 million Glasgow Riverside Museum contract and the £1.6 million project at the Museum of the Order of St John in Clerkenwell, London.
The brand new Glasgow Riverside Museum project
is Mivan’s largest museum project since the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha in Qatar. Mivan will be supplying and installing a range of complex exhibition systems, street scenes and displays throughout the new building.
In contrast, the Museum of the Order of St John, at St John’s Gate, is a Grade 1 Listed Building, and the gate itself dates back to 1504.
As part of an extensive redevelopment Mivan will be carrying out structural works and fitting-out areas in The Priory Church and the Museum at St John’s Gate.
Speaking about the contract awards, Stephen Mills, Mivan Business Development Director, said: "These are two very different, but equally exciting projects to be involved with.
"The Museum of the Order of St John is one of the great hidden treasures of London, tracing the history of a 900 year old charity.
"The expansive Riverside Museum in Glasgow will become a landmark building for Scotland and Mivan is delighted to play a role in making this happen."
The iconic museum in Glasgow is being built at a cost of £74 million and has quickly established itself as the latest landmark on the banks of the Clyde.
The building, which will celebrate Glasgow’s outstanding contribution to the world of travel and transport, is at the heart of the Glasgow Harbour development due to open in spring 2011.
Meanwhile on the Museum of the Order of St John project, Mivan will be providing joinery and construction services that will help to showcase unusual artefacts such as paintings, illuminated manuscripts, ancient coins and rare armour. The museum will open to the public in the summer of 2010.
