AN Antrim business' award-winning BrowseAloud software programme has been adopted by yet another company, this time the General Social Care Council.
Based at Enkalon Industrial Estate,Texthelp Systems’ pioneering BrowseAloud programme is already used by 3,000 organisations worldwide to enhance the accessibility of their websites, including Ofsted, The Pensions Advisory Service, The Cabinet Office
, BT, Yell and Waterstones to name a few.

Visitors to these sites can then download BrowseAloud free-of-charge and use it on any website that has implemented BrowseAloud.

The General Social Care Council has enabled an innovative new product on its website with the new version of BrowseAloud, which will allow people with literacy difficulties, dyslexia or mild visual impairments to hear online content being read aloud.

Online visitors simply click the BrowseAloud icon on the accessibility page of The General Social Care Council’s website- www.gscc.org.uk to download the product free of charge.

Selena Rahman, Web and Publications Manager for The General Social Care Council, said: "As it is our responsibility for setting standards of conduct and practice for social care workers and their employees, we are very conscious that our online services need to be accessed by everyone who visits our website. We recognise the importance of online accessibility and believe BrowseAloud will aid us in overcoming these barriers."

BrowseAloud is a text-to-speech solution that reads all accessible website content aloud in a high quality human sounding voice which can be altered to suit the individual’s specific needs. As text is read aloud, words are highlighted; a useful tool which aids literacy and comprehension.
