RECENTLY while I was standing in a queue at a filling station, waiting to pay for my petrol, I was aware that a conversation was going on behind me between two ladies.
As there seemed to be a problem with the computer my wait was longer than usual which meant

I could hear the conversation behind me as the ladies did not lower their voices.

The topic of their conversation was about a lady whose husband rec
ently and suddenly had died.

The widow was not only distressed at her husband’s sudden death but also because they had plans for his imminent retirement.

Her memories of the past and her plans for the future seem to have disappeared. One of the ladies remarked “I don’t understand these things”.

As I began to reflect on these things later my thoughts were directed to a lady called Mary Magdalene in John chapter 20.

This lady had been in the company of the Lord Jesus and like many others had received help and healing.

Her life which was controlled by Satan (Luke 8) had been changed and turned around and she became a faithful and devoted follower of Jesus. Something had happened which brought sadness and tears to her eyes. Jesus was taken, nailed to a cross and then placed in a tomb.

The person who meant so much to her was dead and when she came to anoint his body it was gone.

The events of the last few days to her were unexpected and her plans and hopes for the future lay in ruins. She too had unanswered questions.

Sometimes in life, like Mary, we are faced with changing circumstances which bring us down a road that we thought we would never have to travel.

With tears in our eyes, fear in our heart and questions in our mind, we stand alone like Mary wondering how we can cope.

Suddenly someone was standing beside Mary and spoke to her. Although she was unaware who he was at the time when he called her by her name, she realised that he was her living, loving, caring Master.

The Saviour later explained to His followers that His death on the cross was necessary to take away sin and as he promised he would rise again to bring joy, hope and comfort to those who would come to Him. Where there were tears He brought joy, where there was uncertainty He brought hope and where there was distress He brought peace.

You may be reading this article and wondering if there is anyone who can help you.

Jesus Christ is a living Saviour and a loving Friend who is interested in every aspect of your life.

He is willing and waiting to change your life if you will only let Him.

“See Mary weeping, ‘Where is He laid?’

As in sorrow she turns from the empty tomb;

Hears a voice speaking, calling her name;

It’s the Master, the Lord raised to life again!

The voice that spans the years,

Speaking life, stirring hope, bringing peace to us,

Will sound till He appears, for He lives,

Christ is risen from the dead!”
